🧩 Grammar القواعد

To ask someone politely to do something, we use two structures:

  • Would you mind + verb-ing …? ▸ Would you mind opening the window? (very polite)
  • Could you + base verb …? ▸ Could you open the window, please? (polite)

Add please to sound even nicer. To ask someone not to do something: Would you mind not talking so loudly?

Careful with answers! “Would you mind…?” means “Is it a problem for you…?”. So to say YES, I’ll help, we answer: No, not at all. / Of course not. / No problem.

لطلب شيء بأدب: Would you mind + فعل بـ ing، أو Could you + الفعل في صيغته الأصلية. انتبه: للموافقة على Would you mind نقول No, not at all (أي: لا مانع عندي).

Two polite structures

A model text to compare with (after writing mine)

Dear Mrs Gharbi,

We are four pupils from class 9B, and we are starting an English project called “My Ideal Mobile Phone”. We want to write it as a blog, but we have never made one. Could you help us create a free blog during the computer lesson on Thursday? Would you mind showing us how to add photos and short texts? Also, could you check our first post before we publish it? We know you are very busy, so we will be ready and on time. If the internet does not work, we will use paper. Thank you very much for your help. That’s very kind of you!

Best wishes,
